The Analysis.

This is my front cover page.

The front cover page is a fairly dark blue, i have choose this colour because the college colour scheme is different shades of blue. If i have a blue front cover readers can quickly see the native blue and identify it as the Sussex Downs College magazine.

The title of the front cover has different shades to it, all these colours in the title contrast with the blue back ground to make it readable and understandable.

The picture is based central, underneath the title to the right. I have placed the image here because it works as a marker for the rest of the cover to build up around, also other magazines traditionally place their main cover picture centrally so if i do it too then people can understand it easier. The caption for the picture is underneath along the bottom of the front cover.

Above the caption, in the bottom right of the cover is a yellow label. This label exsplains that the front cover is free, i have made it yellow because it stands out lots.

To the right of the page are the main stories or events of the book. They are there to entice the reader into the book and to inform. Each story is a different colour to help seperate each one, without confusing the reader. At the top of the side coloumn on the right is a "What's new" box, this tells the reader that this is the "What's new" collumn.

The Analysis - The contents.

This is my contents page.

I have chosen a simplistic style for my contents page because often, they will get too cluttered and will confuse the reader.

I stuck with the native colours of the Sussex Downs College, the college I'm studying media at too show clear visual relation between the magazine and the college.

My contents page consists of 7 chapters, and clearly indicates what is going on in each chapter. I didn't but any stories of whats going on in the magazine because this is only a concept copy and the stories will change each week.

On the whole i stuck to my flat plan and kept referring to it for more ideas, however i did make some small alterations because it was very unpractical. The first, perhaps more obvious change i made was the layout of the chapters, instead of going from left to right then right to left i went down in a traditional and common list, i did this because it was easier and hasle free it also had a more established edge to it in my opinion.

I had also changed my font, to a smaller font size. I did this to make it fit all on one page with ease. The colour of the font is black, this is because black is a good contrast with blue. Black also relates to my "simplistic" style that i had mentioned previously.

My pictuers: Jack.

This is one of the three pictures that i will include in my magazine.I will be placing this image on the front of the magazine as the main theme of the front page. This picture will relate to the story underneath in the caption, it will be about Jack (in the photo) being the volleyball captain for the college getting injured in a game.

This is another picture that i will include in the main body of text about the picture inside the magazine. I will not put it on the front page as i belive the photo above is better and looks more fun.

I will include this photo in the contents page, it will make readers want to look ahead and read into the story.

My scanned pictures.

I scanned in my contents page and my front page that i had drawn up by hand in my media lessons.

Front cover.

The title of my magazine is SDC (Sussex Downs College), i choose this because its relevant and easily recognisable. I have put this on the top of my front bage in big letters and made it clear to the reader.

I have a central picture in the middle of the page on my front cover. This will be a picture showing my main theme of the issue. I have put this here, so people can immediately see what genre the magazine is and constant and reliable readers can recognise the magazine from glancing through shelves.

Along the side of the front page there are lots of sub story's and sub titles, these are here to show less important, however they may still be important to a minority of readers who find the story's relevant.

In the top right hand side it shows the price and a bar code on the magazine. I have placed this in the top right because it is the most convenient, in my opinion, place to put it. It fits in well with the main title and helps to stand out. There are not so many places that i could have put it and keep the rest of the front cover in context.

Contents.

My contents page has a fairly unique design. It is a list of the book and what it contains, i have done it in a list manner because people see list's every day and can easily read and understand them.

I have a image on easy line of the list to help explain and show what the content is and entice.

At the top of the page is the college logo title, this is on the front page. It is there because people can connect and relate with the front cover to the contents page.

The Contents page is fairly simplistic, i don't want to complicate and confuse readers and i believe most of the time, simple and neat pages are more interesting than pages that are packed full of pictures and text, after all i want to attract readers, not repel them.

Media | As.

My Assignment.

This is my blog for my preliminary course work.

Adobe photo shop will be the most common program i will be using to edit my magazine's front cover. My front cover will include a photo shot of a student in a medium close up and i will add some text for a title and a master head.

After i have done that i will produce a mock up layout, for the contents page but i will keep it simple without any text or pictures.
